SGSHOP review: My worst Taobao shopping experience

For all shopaholics in Malaysia, we know about Taobao, we heard of Taobao, and we LOVE Taobao for sure! I’m sure that we all familiar with ‘Taobao Agent’ service out there, which charge a service fee upon buying on behalf of us and ship from China Warehouse to Malaysia. I’ve tried shopping with SGSHOP and also using their SHIP FOR ME service, you can scroll to the bottom for my sincere review.

First, let me explain the SHIP FOR ME service which is really new to me and I was really hoping this will be working but it seems like ended up with having total 100% disappointment.

What is SHIP FOR ME?

With Ship For Me service, you can now make a purchasing on your own using your own taobao account and send it to the address that provided by SGSHOP, all you need to do is to copy the address provided to your taobao account! That’s it!


As you are purchasing from third party sellers, with SGSHOP assisting you upon your instructions and as your authorized agent, there is a total of two payment for each purchase that you should pay attention to:

1st Payment (100% which will paid to your selected seller on your behalf): Product Price + China Domestic Shipping (China Express)

· Paid after checking out items from shopping cart.

2nd Payment (Paid to SGshop): International Shipping + Service Charge + Clearance Fee

· Paid upon submission for International shipping.

My Worst Taobao Shopping Experience with SGSHOP

I’ve personally tried both purchase directly at SGSHOP and Ship For Me, everything is working fine but one of the frustration with SGSHOP is the delivery time, I’ve tried the Air Delivery which took 5-7 days, that is understandable (as to me is considered slow), and Ship Delivery which said to be 3 weeks that turned out to be a total nightmare for me. The tracking isn’t really good and it doesn’t update the tracking code as well.

Well, all of these are still okay until the customer service which is totally not helpful that create a total shopping disappointment with SGSHOP. I’ve submitted 2 tickets before and the best answer I ever had is always ‘in Custom Inspection’ and my shipment is forever in Custom Inspection…it never update on their website tracking or nothing.

  1. I submitted a ticket asking my shipment on 3/11/2016, customer service replied telling me it’s in custom inspection.
  2. No update after ONE Week, so I replied the ticket on 9/11/2016 is when a TOTAL DISASTER I ever encountered, my shipment was delivered wrongly to another person!

My Address is to SOLARIS MONT KIARA and they delivered to BANGSAR SOUTH which is unacceptable.

So on 9/11/2016, they told me will arrange another delivery, but on 10/11/2016 I checked with the person holding my shipment, NO ONE collect my shipment from him and yet another helpful reply from their customer service hoping for my ‘understanding’ that turned me into total madness.

So on 11/11/2016, customer service said will speed up my shipment delivery and yet on 14/11/2016 when I checked with the person holding my shipment, NO ONE collected from him yet!!

So you want to know how it ended up?

I picked up my shipment by driving all the way to Bangsar South!

It’s been ONE WEEK delay and never-ending delay, I placed my SHIP FOR ME order on 8th Oct 2016, ETA written 6th Nov 2016, so dear KaiSing, I hope you’re reading this, how do you expect my understanding when you’re not even helping me to solve my problem?

    Was their premium SVIP member, used to be good. Now, not only do they fail to satisfy customer’s needs, experiences have nosedived into negative zone

    Upon suggestion, I decided to check ou recent ratings I googled for “sgshop review” and read the Google reviews. Am shocked and yet not surprised! Shocked because others’ experiences are worse! Not surpriseg because I encountered similar negative experiences,,,,

    Nontransparent inconsistent policies, really hidden convoluted obsfuscated and creative reasons and charges from sgcare, inspection, value-add services, insurance, creeping/inflatwd/repetitive domestic shipping, administrative charges, etc…: You wont know upfront but as your order becomes listed as “problematic order”, all the charges, price discrepancies, increases in domestic shipping, etc. Just see others’ reviews below

    Their classification of items are arbitrary and inconsistent- their reclassification show their rules are so arbitrary and ambiguous.

    Everything from books, magazines, toys, IT/electronics/electricals WITHOUT battery/cable/power supplies, tools, toys, apparel, and anything that has a label/logo).. cannot go by normal air. Either lemgthy sea shipping or expensive “special air”

    Then, if you decide not to continue, you incur charges… and surprisinglt popped up like toadstools after a rain all the deductions, with the final refunded amt will have been deducted by returned domestic shipping, admin charges, etc They even madeThis is befpre considering the long time lag/delay. Unlike other agents, should we decide not yo continue, or to.canc, or to chamge, there is no admin or whatever charge involved and refund is less than a day.

    The final straw that broke the camel’s back is
    unprofessional customer service staff who do not bother to understand your concerns but speak down to you as if you are an idiot, beat their chests crying self-righteously, blindly (faithfully) citing company policy as a magical mantra as a shield..

    “…so what if you am a premium SVIP member, we have many other VIP who spent even more than you….”; (well, why then have a loyalty VIP program only pay lip service to?

    “… we practise equal treatment even if you are premium member… ” (while egaitarian.treatment is appreciated, they should really learn from SQ.. say your frequent flyer miles or your premium raffles class seat mean nothing but plain water across the board.)

    “..after you combine your orders, as long as on different dates, even if during promotion of no service charge, you incur further service charges.” (To think combining orders actually help them too!)

    “… it is our company policy…..” (The ubiquitous shield stronger than Captain America’s shield… when asked the rationale, you are clawed with Wolverine”s fangs”

    “.i am sorry that cannot….” (If say sorry, then really mean it! Insincerity stinks and smacks of the worst Hollywood, Bollywood, K-drama formula scripts)

    “ it is not easy to buy from others (not ez to buy from ezbuy)..” (gee, they displayed a poetic flair)

    “….if you want to compare with other competitors, then go buy from them…”. (Well, sure, i have chosen to forgo all the points accrued and switched)

    “.. why should i, what is there to update you when the taobao seller never replied me..” (i learnt that they are scared of Yaobao selers because the sellers can collude to refuse/veto against selling to agents’ accounts and shipping addresses… consumer sovereignty?)

    “…if you want to speak to anyone else or hogher up, you are blocked by the mantra of you must send in a written request, every company does that….” (gosh, this is the new corporate millenium!)

    “….i dont want to waste time to call my COO, because he will always tell us to tell you to write in. .” You have to send in an email as if you have to submit an imperial edict to seek an audience with the emperor! Despite writng in and even furnishing your contact details with express explicit request to talk to him, you receive a canned, cookie-cutter standard reply. The paragraphs and syntax dont even sync or link! Maybe really earned enough or am milking us as much as the business model lasts before bursting or superceded by Alibaa

    Heck! Why should i pay to go through such negative experiences? Enough is enough! I discovered to my delight there are other alternatives: agents, direct shippers, personal shoppers, etc). DIY has become easy possible too! Thank you for sharing in this forum I learnt a lot… Thanks

    I just got a very bad service from them myself. I’ve order only one item but 5 pieces of that item and paid the full amount for shipping. They subsequently only sent me one piece of the item order and told me they will refund me my purchase price for the remaining 4 pcs as the items are not in their warehouse. What about the shipment? I emailed them and they are not bothered replying after telling me that they will only refund the purchase price. They just say that’s the best they can do and ignore my subsequent email.

    I’ve even purchased their SG Care service. Apparently an additional service from them to check and ensure that all I purchased is there before delivery. Obviously their SG Care service personnel didn’t care. The terms and conditions of the service obviously also say that in the event where my product is not delivered as ordered, they will not only refund me the amount for the goods not received but also the shipping and administration fee. None of those were refunded. And I have a trail evidence of all this conversations with them on email and screenshots of all the terms and conditions of service that they didn’t fulfill.

    Definitely a scammer and dishonest company. And agreed that they should not be allowed to be an agent. Will never ever buy anything from them again.

  4. I’ve been aware of Taobao for a few years, but have never been confident enough to make any purchase. I recently made a purchase through SGShop, hopefully, their service has significantly improved since your distressing experience.

    Sad to hear about your experience man. Whether in sg or msia, can give ezbuy a try. Been using their service for quite some time now and they are pretty good so far. They have some items with free shipping now. >

    Thanks, is happening in Singapore too. SGSHOP told me that my return of fake/spoil goods, their service charges are very high, you may not get back your money refund, seller may claim that he did not receive (i.e. this seller has only a surname and no company name, home address is wrong!). Therefore, SGSHOP does not assure you the genuine sellers and you bear at your own risk to buy!

    1. so frustrated right! Their customer service is really not giving you any solution to your problem.
