I remembered visiting Nami Island by ourselves back in 2015, I won’t say that it’s hard to get there, but to hop on a train to get to Gapyeong Station is a bit tricky, we alight in a wrong station thinking it can transfer us to the ITX train which lead to Gapyeong station and we spend another hour transiting to get to the destination. And when you’re at Gapyeong Station, you have to find your own way to figure out which is Gapyong Tour Bus and frankly speaking, the bus is always FULL.

Hopping on the tour bus and get straight to your destination not only save you time but you have more time to rest as well. Starting our journey with pick up service at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station Exit 10 at 8.10am, we grabbed our breakfast at CU the convenient store just right beside the exit and hop on the vehicle. It took around 1.5 hours to get to The Garden of Morning Calm, so we get to rest while travelling to the place.

The Garden of Morning Calm

This might be your first time seeing this name, you probably has a big question mark on top of your head but if you’re a K-Drama person, you would be familiar with this place.

The Garden of Morning Calm, a 30,000㎡ garden, is open year-round and is a great spot to visit for families, couples, and photographers alike. The inspiration for the garden stemmed from a poem written by Sir Tagore, a great Indian poet, who described Korea during the Joseon Dynasty as “The Land of the Morning Calm.”

The garden has a lot of pretty flowers and photo spots, this is one of the little church house at the end of so called ‘road to heaven’.

Other than Love in the Moonlight, it’s a filming location for several other drama, TV shows as well.

Familiar enough with the scene?

The garden is not really a big garden but it has a lot of pretty flowers and of course a few photograph spot. We also get a Free Gift from our Driver, a handfan with his special handwritten hangel, as mentioned by him. What’s written on the handfan is ‘Kwon Ji Yong’, G-Dragon’s Korean name, which also the person that brought us to Seoul at this time of the year because of his concert. =P

Moving on, next station is Nami Island.

When you leave The Garden of Morning Calm, remember to look around as the area has a lot of pretty cafe in a very unique architecture, a lot of them, really A LOT OF Cafes! Ok, so we left the garden at around 11am and make it to Nami Island at noon which is just good for lunch. Tour leader passed us the ticket and we’re on Free and Easy!

Ticket to Nami Island (inclusive of return ferry trip) cost 10,000 korean won. So we had our Stir Fried Chicken (Dakgalbi) meal as lunch, it wasn’t a satisfying lunch but is okay, we just had a quick bite and continue our journey to enter Nami Island. The ferry took about 10-15 minutes but bear in mind it may have a long queue to get on board.

The popular Tree Lined Road

Namiseom Island located 63 km away from Seoul is famous for its beautiful tree lined roads. Nami Island is not only known as filming spot of Winter Sonata, but also a culture center for creative ideas of local artists and employees. Nami Island is popular as a get-away for couples, friends and family from the bustling city.

It’s really not easy to get a spot without passerby in your photo and you would probably need to stand for 30 minutes to 1 hour for a good photo. Or you can choose to find other beautiful spot for photo like this:

The island is not a big island, but it’s definitely a good experience if you rent a bike and cycle around the island, we get 2.5 hours to spend in this island hence we prefer to walk instead of cycle.

Highlight of the day – Gangchon Railbike

I’m not sure whether this will be a highlight for you or not, but it’s definitely a highlight for me! I’ve seen a lot of TV shows doing this railbike, particularly Runningman.

I was all excited to get on the ride! It’s really fun and if you think it’s just a railbike, you might missed out some of the interesting thing, we passed by a few tunnel and they did turned all the tunnels into a fun and interesting sight!

It was a 2 hours ride but it wasn’t a difficult one, it’s really relaxing even kids and elderly can do it without problem. If doesn’t required any uphill cycle or hard push to make it move, it’s all smooth and you just have to follow the speed of railbike in front of you. Here’s one of my favourite tunnel ‘Bubble Tunnel’!

Beautiful sight all along the way, another interesting part is the first kilometer you will pass by a few main roads with a traffic police stand by to direct you, you should pull the brake when the traffic light turns red just like trains.

Overall, it’s a real worth it tour to go!

Now let’s do the calculation, a ticket to Nami Island cost 10,000krw, a ticket to The Garden of Morning Calm cost 8,000krw and a ticket for 2 persons railbike cost 98,000krw, divided by 2 is 49,000krw per person, total up to spend on entrance tickets for these 3 places is 67,000krw. Plus all the transportation to get to these places I would say another 10,000krw which added up to 77,000krw per person. This is why I said is real worth it to go with Funtastic Korea tour package.
