Seoul City Wall a.k.a Naksan Park

Why is it called Naksan?? The name derived from its camel hump lookalike appearance. ‘Nakta’ means camel and ‘san’ means mountain in Korean, hence it formed the name Naksan. So people refer to the park as Nakta Park or Naksan Park.

The mountain is a solid granite bedrock. The Joseon royal family enjoyed the natural beauty of the granite mountain, but during the Japanese Colonial Period, a hasty manner of urban planning resulted in the demolition of most parts of the mountain. In an effort to save the remaining green belts, Naksan was designated as a park on June 10, 2002. Located in the center of the Seoul, this historical and beautiful park allows its visitors to view the magnificence of the entire city. (cr: Imagine Your Korea)

How to get to Seoul City Wall a.k.a Naksan Park?

By Subway:
Hyehwa Station (Seoul Subway Line 4), Exit 2.
– Go straight for 200m, then turn left onto Dongsung-gil Street.
– Go straight for 200m, then turn left at Lock Museum.
– Walk straight for 50m, then turn right onto Naksan Gongwon-gil Street.
– Follow the same street up the hill for 300m to arrive at Naksan Park.

Do not hesitate when you saw the winding road uphill! Keep going on until you reach the staircases with signboard pointing up to Naksan Park!

Don’t give up because you’re almost there for amazing night view!

At the end of the staircase, it’s a slightly uphill walk again but you can start seeing the City Wall, keep going…keep going…you’re really 100 meters away from amazing night view!

When you reach the top of this trail, you will start seeing a lot of local Korean doing their exercise, we visit the place around 5.30p.m., thinking it might be too late because we don’t see a lot of people going up the staircase, but bare in mind there are a few different trails to Naksan Park, so if you don’t see a lot of people heading the same route as you, don’t worry because eventually you will be entering Naksan Park.

While we wander around Naksan Park, the sun is slowly setting down in West, so we get to witness awesome Sunset. I can stand here for about 30 minutes without doing anything while watching the sunset.

Don’t leave Naksan Park yet as when the sun set, the city starts to light up!!

Naksan Park a.k.a Seoul Fortress Wall night view! You will start seeing a lot of couples walking around this area when the city lighting up. It’s a good walk after dinner, and there’s a few trails you can choose to descend but it may lead you to another exit of the station.
